Communion of saints
Saints
Who they were, when they are celebrated, and when Catholics ask for their prayers. Patronages vary by country, diocese and devotion.
Church teaching
Why ask the saints to pray for us?
Saints do not replace God and have no power of their own. Asking for their intercession means asking those already united with God to pray for us — as we would ask a friend. All grace comes from God; a saint is an intercessor, an example and a companion on the way.
Saint N., pray for me to God.Not: Saint N., grant me this miracle by your own power.
